New Countryside Stewardship - application window now openWednesday 15 July 2015
The new Countryside Stewardship Scheme (CSS) has now been launched and all the information is available on the website.
The application window has opened on 1st July and will close on 30th September.
The main priority for Countryside Stewardship is to protect and enhance the natural environment, particularly the diversity of wildlife (biodiversity). Water quality is another important priority.
The scheme will also help to improve:
- flood management
- the historic environment
- landscape character
- genetic conservation
- educational access
The mid tier (which replaces ELS) is a competitive scheme and all applications will be scored according to how well the options that you have chosen deliver the local priorities in your area. If you are considering applying this year it would be advisable to have a look at the local priorities in your area and keep these in mind when selecting your options.
There is a full list of all the options available which also includes the specific prescriptions for the option and the payment rates. It is important that you consider exactly what the prescriptions are for each option you choose, both in terms of land management and record keeping, before you enter into an agreement as they differ from the old schemes. The manual is also available as a pdf document which you can download and print.
There will be workshops organised in all 3 counties to assist farmers in completing their applications and all details will be on the website when confirmed.
